A study showed that women with big hips and small waists tend to be smarter - and to produce smarter children.

Where your fat is distributed is a well recognized factor in cardiovascular health - you know, pear shaped is good, apple shaped is bad. But a study in the University of California in Santa Barbara of 16,000 women showed that it’s distribution is relevant to a person s brainpower also. Women with big hips and small waists scored higher in cognitive tests - and so did their kids. The ideal is to have your waist 0.6 to 0.7 times the size of your hips.

The suggested explanation is that fat in the hips contains more Omega 3 fatty acids - which are essential for healthy brain development. Abdominal fat contains non-brain enhancing Omega 6 fatty acids.

It’s probably what makes them smart enough to avoid us lecherous old men.

Sort of related, is the research finding that we lecherous old men (or actually any men I gather) tend to believe that blonds are dumber than other women and act accordingly.

Actually it sounds like the men who are dumb. In the study, conducted in France, men were shown pictures of women with fair hair or brown hair or red hair, and were then given a general knowledge quiz.

Although there is no scientific evidence that blonds are dumber, it seemed like men have this perception. After being shown pictures of fair-haired women their responses to the quiz showed that they dumb’ed down to match the perceived stupidity of the blond in the picture.

So does this mean we have to give up all those jokes that we guys so enjoy - like the way to cause a twinkle in the eye of a blond is to shine a flashlight in her ear?
